Silvio Cavatorta Biography

Silvio Cavatorta took the reins of the Roman family business Cavatorta in the 1930s. The company produced its furniture in small, exclusive series and its main customers were embassies, hotels, schools and ships. Each piece of furniture was uniquely designed for each specific commission. While most other well-known Italian designers in the second half of the 20th century embraced industrial methods of production and reproduction, the Cavatorta company remains true to its standards in rejecting large-scale industrial production and in favor of fine materials and craftsmanship . Thanks to unique commissions, the artisanal and material production style of the family company and a cosmopolitan interest that goes beyond Italian design, Cavatorta furniture remains unique, rare and of the highest quality, both from an aesthetic and construction point of view. The furnishings we offer in the catalog come from a prestigious Roman hotel from the 1950s: armchairs, sideboard, bed and bedside tables. The high manufacturing quality, the choice of flamed maple as wood for the furniture, the use of precious materials such as brass and glass, denote the importance and elegance of these furnishings.
