Vittorio Dassi Biography
Vittorio Dassi (1923 - 1973) was an Italian furniture designer and manufacturer active from the 1950s to the 1970s. Dassi was born in 1923 and founded his furniture company in the 1950s, which produced high-end furniture known for its quality craftsmanship and luxurious materials. Dassi's furniture designs were often characterized by elegant lines, elegant curves and attention to detail. He favored the use of exotic woods, such as rosewood, and often incorporated brass and chrome accents into his designs. Some of his most notable furniture includes sofas, chairs, tables and cabinets, designed to be both functional and visually stunning. Dassi's furniture, made in the 40s and 50s, stands out for the choice of precious woods such as rosewood, cherry, ash and walnut, often decorated with inlaid panels and crystals signed by great glass masters. Elegant in design without losing functional quality, its furnishings can be combined with the refined style of Gio Ponti, to whom Vittorio was linked through important collaborations after taking over from his father in the Dassi Mobili Moderni company in Lissone. Among the most important projects of the factory there is in fact the creation of the furniture for the rooms of the Hotel Royal in Naples, designed by Ponti in the mid-1950s, a period that marks Dassi's turning point towards more schematic shapes and teak wood for the production of modular furniture. Overall, Vittorio Dassi's furniture designs are considered some of the finest examples of mid-century Italian design and continue to be very influential in the world of furniture design and manufacturing.
