Angelo Del Bon Biography

Angelo Del Bon (Milan, 12 April 1898 – Desio, 10 June 1952). In 1923 he began his artistic career sharing the studio in Piazzale Asso with Umberto Lilloni. In 1929 he moved to the artists' studio in Via Solferino and gave life, with his friends Umberto Lilloni, Francesco De Rocchi, Adriano Spilimbergo, Cristoforo De Amicis and the presence of the critic Edoardo Persico, to a new pictorial experience defined as "Chiarism". In 1928 he was awarded the "Fumagalli Foundation Award" in Milan and in the same year he participated in the XVI Venice Biennale and the subsequent seven editions. In 1934 he also obtained the “Prince Umberto Award” in Milan. In 1935 he was appointed permanent teacher of "Figure" at the Brera art school and in 1941 he was a teacher of "Figure" at the Brera Academy. In 1937 he was awarded the “Lecco Prize” at the Lecco Quadrennial. In 1944 he married Jolanda Villa. Between 1933 and 1942 he frequented Castiglione delle Stiviere, guest of the painters Oreste Marini and Ezio Mutti. He was a guest at Castel Goffredo for several artistic stays of Maddalena Nodari, who considered him her teacher. His stays in the area offered new ideas for his Chiarist landscapes: the hills and Lake Garda, with Sirmione and Bardolino. At the end of this period he applied himself to the figure, portrait and still life. In 1941 he obtained the "Bergamo Prize" at the IV Bergamo Exhibition and in 1942 the coveted "Ministry Prize" from the Ministry of National Education in Rome. In 1950 he suffered paresis and was replaced at the Brera Academy by Cristoforo De Amicis. He died in Desio on 10 June 1952 after receiving the "Desio Prize" ten days earlier. In 1954 the Venice Biennale paid homage to him by dedicating a room to him, set up by the painter Domenico Cantatore.
