Guy Harloff Biography
Guy Harloff was born in Paris on 4 June 1933. His father, Han Harloff, was a Dutch painter of Russian origin, while his mother, Ida Teresa Conti, was of Swiss nationality, but of an Italian family. He completed his classical studies, but his passion was cinema. He attended directing courses in Paris. In 1952 he dedicated himself to painting, he was self-taught and felt the influence of Kurt Schwitters both in the poetics of "objets trouvés" and in the collage technique. From 1962 to 1965 he made numerous trips to Iran, Tunisia, the Middle East and lived for a certain period in Tangier (Morocco). Study the rites, symbols, oriental religions. He is fascinated by African light. From 1965 to 1968 he lived and worked in Milan. He travels all over the world, also living for various periods in London, New York, Paris. He is interested in alchemy, esotericism, cabala, continuing to cultivate his inexhaustible passion for jazz.
