FRANCESCO ALBANI (Bologna, 1578-1660) After his first studies in Bologna, in the Bolognese workshop of the Flemish mannerist painter Denijs Calvaert, where he worked as an apprentice, he was admitted to the Carracci Academy. Francesco Albani contributed significantly to the diffusion of Bolognese classicism, providing an interpretation which, in the last part of his career, indulged the taste of certain clients, creating effects of solemnity, balance and seriousness that we find above all in mythological paintings, rather than in religious ones.
