Gianni Albertini was born in Milan in 1902 and became known for his involvement in the Nobile expedition in the tourist center of Cervinia. As Sucaino, he actively participated in the research during the expedition. In 1929, Albertini organized and led a second polar expedition with the aim of searching for six missing men or shedding light on their fate. This project required careful planning, obtaining financing, choosing an appropriate means to carry out the undertaking and selecting participants.
Thanks to his skills as an engineer, Albertini carried out the necessary calculations to determine the weight of the airship's shell damaged in the impact with the ice pack and calculated, on the basis of the gas losses and the impact of the people who fell on the pack, the The approximate altitude the airship could have reached after the violent impact. With great precision, he collected meteorological data provided by the stations of Svalbard, New Zemlya and Siberia, drawing up diagrams with the directions of the winds in the period between 24 and 26 May 1928. From these diagrams, he derived an approximate route for the aerostat .
The new expedition had the task of conducting research on the northern coasts of the Northeast Land, on the western coasts of the Franz Josef Land archipelago and on the western coasts of New Zemlya.
