(vilmore Schenardi) Armodio Biography
Armodio, whose real name is Vilmore Schenardi, was born in Piacenza on 4 October 1938, where he currently lives and works. Since he was a child he showed a declared predisposition for drawing and colour. At 13 he met Luciano Spazzali, who invited him to a small workshop of local artists; here he met Gustavo Foppiani, who would become his valid promoter. Between 1951 and 1952 he attended the Gazzola Institute in Piacenza, although he did not recognize great importance in it. The Spazzali Studio or “Piacenza School” will have a much greater weight, where the young man learns new techniques, finding his own identity and creativity. In 1954 he abandoned Spazzali's workshop and moved with Foppiani to a basement where he concentrated on painting; after changing studios, Carlo Berté also joins. Thanks to Foppiani's interest, in 1964 Armodio exhibited at the Obelisco Gallery in Rome, where he met with public approval, but great success came when Lily Shepley managed to sell her works in the United States. In 1969 he went to London where he came into contact with Indian, Persian and Japanese painting, of which he especially appreciated the colors and the absence of perspective. In 1972 he successfully exhibited his works in Brussels. Armodio's fame rises and, after a fruitful stay in Paris, he returns to Italy, gaining more and more exhibitions named after him. Giorgio Soavi, Vittorio Sgarbi, Marco Vappello, Marilena Pasquali, Patrick Waldberg, Maurizio Fagiolo Dell'Arco, Claudia Gian Ferrari, Rossana Bossaglia, Stéphane Reyh have written about him, among others.
