Arredamenti Borsani Varedo (abv) Biography
In the 1930s, Osvaldo Borsani (Varedo 1911 - Milan, 1985) took on the role of artistic director of the company founded by his father Gaetano in the 1920s, even before graduating in architecture. In 1935, the Gaetano Borsani/Atelier of Varedo opened the Arredamenti Borsani shop in the center of Milan: it was here that Osvaldo created his furniture, often unique pieces, which expressed a typical 20th century taste lightened in volumes and made unique by grooves and decorative carvings that give movement to the surfaces of his furniture through the use of contrasting materials.
In the 1940s, the company began to offer increasingly refined lines; however, it was in the 1950s that a radical turning point occurred thanks to Osvaldo's collaboration with his brother Fulgenzio, turning towards mass production. In this context, a change also took place in the name of the company, which in 1954 became Tecno, to underline the union between cutting-edge technology and formal research that characterizes Tecno's models, produced in series and made with great precision.
The brand collaborates with important designers, including Carlo de Carli and Eugenio Gerli, who orient production towards furnishings characterized by multifunctionality: office furniture, folding chairs, removable armchairs and swivel tables.
