Atchugarry resides in Lecco, Italy and Manantiales, Uruguay. He actively follows the Fundación Pablo Atchugarry and the international park of monumental sculptures. In 1979 near Carrara he created his first sculpture entitled La Lumière not after experimenting with different materials. In 1982 he moved to Lecco and here he began working on his first monumental project, in Carrara marble. In 2002 he was awarded the "Michelangelo" prize in Carrara for his artistic career. In 2003 he was at the fiftieth International Art Exhibition - the Venice Biennale with Sognando la Pace. In 2013, Mondadori Electa published the General Catalog of Sculpture edited by Professor Carlo Pirovano, which contains all the artist's sculptures from the period 1971-2013. In 2014 it was the turn of the sculpture Movimento nel Mondo, also in Carrara marble, 8.35 meters high; the work is installed in Kallo-Beveren in Belgium. In 2016, the monumental Incontro statue, made of stainless steel, 8.70 meters high and 2.40 meters wide, was installed at the entrance to the municipality of Bagno a Ripoli near Florence. Since the nineties, in the municipality of Lamezia Terme in Calabria, at the entrance to the Guido d'Ippolito municipal stadium, a beautiful grooved marble sculpture by the Uruguayan artist depicting a footballer with a ball has been positioned.
