Barbini Biography

Vetreria Barbini (1950 - ) Alfredo Barbini (1912 - 2007) was born in 1912 and is today considered one of the most prestigious masters of the twentieth century. From an early age he began working with blown glass; first at the Zecchin Martinuzzi glass factory (1932 – 1936) where he learned the technique of working with solid glass from the sculptor Napoleone Martinuzzi, then at the VAMSA glass factory (Vetreria Artistica Muranese Società Anonima) where he refined his technique. After the Second World War, Barbini worked as a master glassmaker and designer, subsequently with Archimede Seguso and Napoleone Martinuzzi, then became a partner of Vetreria Vistosi and, subsequently, of Gino Cenedese. With the financial help of the company Salviati & C., for which he produced products, in 1950 he established his own glassworks, Vetreria Alfredo Barbini (reorganized in 1983 as Alfredo Barbini Srl). His company exhibited his works at the Venice Biennales from 1950 to 1961.
