Barovier E C. Biography
Barovier & Toso (Co.) In 1890 that was known as the Salviati Dr. furnace. Antonio changed the name to Artisti Barovier, led by Benvenuto and Giuseppe Barovier, nephew of Giovanni Barovier. Under their control, the company revives classic 19th century glass themes, as well as murrine, inspired by floral themes. During the First World War the company was temporarily transferred to Tuscany, and in 1919 the name was changed to Vetreria Artistica Barovier with the entry of other partners. Among them were Ercole Barovier, Nicolò Barovier, son of Benvenuto Barovier, and Giuseppe Barovier's son, Napoleon. In 1926 Nicolò and Ercole took over the management and artistic direction of the company, producing aventurine vases, highly prestigious murrine, multicolored vases, character figures, pieces of blown glass and the Primavera series which achieved great success. In 1932, having become the sole owners of the company, they began working on the perfection of coloring in hot water without melting, a technique used in the second half of the 1930s. In 1936 Ercole Barovier became a partner of Ferro Toso and formed Ferro Toso e Barovier, which then became Barovier Toso & C. in 1939. Until 1972 Ercole remained the artistic director of the company, then his son Angelo replaced him. In the 80s many artists collaborated with Barovier & Toso; Matteo Thun, Toni Zuccheri, Renato and Giusto Toso are some examples. Now the management of the company is entrusted to Angelo, affiliated with his son Jacopo and Giovanni Toso. Among the series that had the most success we remember that of the "Cordonati oro", the "Morbidi", the "Zebrati", the "Barbarico" and the "Tot Misia".
