Egidio Bonfante Biography

Egidio Bonfante (1922 - 2004) was an Italian designer. He was born in Treviso in 1922, then moved to Novara but his education took place at the Milan Polytechnic and the Brera Academy where he came into contact with the artistic milieu and the cultural fervor of the post-war period. He will group under one wing many of the names of the first Italian post-cubists, such as Guttuso, Morlotti, Cassinari, Vedova, Peverelli, Ajmone and Testori who will sign a few months later the "Manifesto of realism of painters and sculptors", announced at the Milanese exhibition "Beyond Guernica". This intends to place Picasso's painting as a starting point and reference model to reach. It, as the name suggests, intends to place Picasso's painting as a starting point and reference model to which to add. In 1948 he was hired by Olivetti and here he was able to be an "artist in Olivetti" because, even though he dedicated himself a lot to graphics, he was able to express his artistic side through wall decorations for shops in this industry all over the world: Venezuela, Spain, Portugal, Mexico. But also in 1952 at the colony of Marina di Massa the artist painted a large painting depicting the sea crowded with boats and surrounded by palms and trees. The following year, he also dedicated himself to the decoration of other walls of the colony, such as one of the rooms dedicated to children's rest: here the artist resorted to images inspired by Luna Park.
