Romeo Borgognoni (Ravenna, 1875 - Pavia, 1944) moved to Pavia at the age of fourteen. In 1891 he entered the Civic School of Painting of Pavia, where he followed the courses held by Pietro Michis (1836-1903). Already during the 90s, immediately after completing his training, he obtained numerous awards and recognitions. Specializing in landscape painting, he first maintained a certain academic rigor, then moved on to a loose and sincere realist style. Borgognoni was also skilled in still life painting and portraits and became an interpreter of impressionist brushwork.
Borgognoni's landscapes, rich in bright and vibrant atmospheres, were inspired above all by the Pavia countryside, but also by silent and solemn urban glimpses. During his career, he also used pastels of great value, delicate and vibrant in their chromatic and luminous qualities. In 1905 he began his career as a teacher in Pavia. He held this position until 1934.
Borgognoni died in Pavia ten years later.
