Felice Boscaratti Biography

Felice Boscaratti was an Italian painter, born in Verona in 1721.
His artistic apprenticeship developed in the workshops of Matteo Brida and Pietro Rotari, but he also had the opportunity to study ancient art directly thanks to a trip to Rome in 1740. Among his first works was a canvas for the chapel Canossa in the church of San Bernardino and a large canvas depicting Pliny the Elder observing the eruption of Vesuvius for the council building of Verona.
In 1764, Felice Boscarati joined the Verona painting academicians and began creating sacred-themed works requested by English and German clients. In those years he also tried his hand at genre painting, producing a series of works for the noble families of Verona.
In 1776, he moved permanently to Venice and in 1780 he was appointed official painter of the prosecutor of San Marco, Giorgio Pisani.
Among his great works, the altarpiece for the parish church of Torri del Benaco in Verona stands out, the altarpiece with San Vincenzo Ferrer resurrecting a child in the parish church of Colà in Lazise and the canvases with the miracles of Sant'Antonio, originally in oratory built by Giovanni Donato Gazzola.
He died in Venice in 1807.
