Guido Canali Biography

Guido Canali was born in 1935 in Parma. After graduating from the Polytechnic of Milan, he carried out his professional activity in Italy and Europe, founding a studio in Parma with branches in Siena and Munich. He was a university professor at the Faculty of Letters in Parma, at the Institute of Architecture in Venice and in Ferrara. His work has been awarded and recognized numerous times, as he dedicates himself both to the restoration of historical complexes and to the care and design of museum displays and complexes.
Among his best-known projects we can mention: the restoration of the Palazzo della Pilotta in Parma, the restoration of the ancient hospital complex of S. Maria della Scala in Siena, the offices of the Prada factory in Valvigna, the headquarters of the Hipo-Vereinsbank in Munich (in collaboration with G. Botti) and the Smeg offices in Guastano. He also designed a neighborhood with fourteen hundred inhabitants in the Portello area in Milan, the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Milan and the museum of stele statues in Pontremoli. He has also carried out several conversions such as that of the ancient Carlo Alberto College in Moncalieri into an International Center for Economic-Financial Masters (in collaboration with L. and M. Deabate), of the former Jesuit College in Fidenza into a study center (in collaboration with G . Del Boca), of the former Manifattura Tabacchi district of Milan as a cultural complex and of the Palazzo del Capitano in Siena as a multipurpose center for the Monte Paschi Foundation. Since 2007 he has been a member of the National Academy of San Luca.
