Carlos Carle' Biography

Carlos Carlé, born in Oncativo, Argentina, in 1928, was a ceramist who took up the art of ceramics thanks to the refractory business run by his father. In 1938 he moved with his family to Buenos Aires and joined Ana Burnichon's art and ceramic studio. During this period, he began to participate in exhibitions and events in Argentina and Europe, visiting countries such as France, Germany, Denmark, Holland, Belgium and Czechoslovakia. In 1954 he was one of the founders of the avant-garde group "Artesanos" in the field of Argentine artistic ceramics and in 1959 he founded the Argentine Ceramic Art Center. In 1961 he received a Gold Medal at the Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition in Prague. During the first half of the 1960s he arrived in Italy and from 1965 worked at the "CAS" (Ceramiche Artistiche Solimene) factory in Vietri sul Mare, known for the production of artistic majolica. At the beginning of the seventies he settled in Albisola, where he collaborated with the "Ce.As.", "Ceramiche Isola" and "Pacetti" factories. In 1997 he became one of the teachers of the First Professional Course for Stoneware Ceramists, a technique in which he is considered a master, and in the same year he received the "Oscar of Ceramics" award from the Museum of Contemporary Ceramics of Albissola Marina. Carlos Carlé died in Savona in April 2015.
