(filippo Chissotti) Chiss Biography
Filippo Chissotti, known by the pseudonym Chiss, was born in Trofarello in 1920 and was the younger brother of the sculptor Giovanni Chissotti. After completing his studies at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Marino Marini and Giacomo Manzù, he enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture. Chiss began his artistic activity by emphasizing the use of line as the only protagonist element, trying to create an artistic synthesis. Throughout his artistic career, the artist expressed himself inconsistently: on the one hand he was attracted by the plasticity of the materials used, usually ceramic, and at the same time he was interested in the search for large proportions. Starting in 1945, he began research into the expressiveness of the materials he used, such as plaster, wood, wax and bronze. He made his debut in the period immediately following the Second World War with an exhibition of drawings at the Faber Gallery in Turin and in 1947 he participated in the Art Quadrennial of the Piedmontese capital, an event in which he also took part in the editions of '51, '55 , '64 and '68. He has created numerous ceramic works intended for architecture. Chiss died in Trofarello in 1995.
