Luigi Clara was born around 1875 in Montanaro Canavese and made his debut as a painter at the Promotrice of Turin in 1896. It is believed that he acquired his artistic training self-taught but, unfortunately, information on his biography is scarce. Clara created numerous large paintings, including alpine landscapes of Piedmont and panoramas of Liguria, demonstrating an interest in the Genoese Gray School.
It is known that Clara moved to Genoa in 1901 and there devoted her attention to Ligurian seascapes and interiors, demonstrating the same skill she had shown with the Alpine views of Northern Italy. Clara was a painter who deserved re-evaluation, capable of capturing with great skill the soft atmospheres of sunset skies and reflections on water. Through his paintings, Clara managed to give a great sense of peace and serenity.
In 1982, a retrospective was dedicated to his art by the Galleria Artetre of Genoa Pegli. Clara died in Genoa in 1925.
