Francesco Coleman was a well-known Italian painter born in Rome on 23 July 1851. He was the sixth of eight children of Charles Coleman, an English painter who settled in Rome in 1835, and Fortunata Segadori, a model from Subiaco, who married in 1836. Read the full biography

Francesco Coleman was a well-known Italian painter born in Rome on 23 July 1851. He was the sixth of eight children of Charles Coleman, an English painter who settled in Rome in 1835, and Fortunata Segadori, a model from Subiaco, who married in 1836. Francesco studied painting in his father's studio, specializing in particular in the use of watercolours.
Coleman also stood out for his oil technique. His works represented the landscapes and figures typical of the Roman countryside and the Agro Pontino, as well as oriental subjects. Throughout his life he shared the studio in via Margutta 33 with his father and his brother Enrico.
He was awarded honorable mention at the Dresden International Exhibition in 1887. After Henry's death in 1911, Coleman ceased his artistic activity. He died on 9 January 1918 in his home in via Valenziani, near Porta Salaria, and was buried in the Verano Cemetery.
