Gino Cortelazzo (Este, 31 October 1927 – Este, 6 November 1985) was an Italian sculptor. Gino Cortelazzo was born in Este (Padua) in 1927. After various work experiences also in South America, he managed to overcome the obstacles that prevented him from dedicating himself completely to sculpture and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna with Umberto Mastroianni. In 1970 he was entrusted with the chair of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, directed by Raffaele De Grada and found as colleagues for the teaching of applied arts, painting, engraving and art history Giò Pomodoro, Luca Crippa, Tono Zancanaro and Massimo Carrà. In the 70s in Milan he met the world of high fashion. Biki, Baratta, Soldano commissioned him to make jewels (unique pieces) for the fashion shows. He met Dino Buzzati and Davide Lajolo, with whom he would always remain linked by a deep friendship. Meet Gianni Berengo Gardin and Enrico Cattaneo who will photograph his work. In 1975 in Rome he met Giulio Carlo Argan who presented him in a series of exhibitions in Germany and Austria, and Cortelazzo began an exhibition journey that took him to Europe and Latin America. In 1980 he inaugurated the house-studio in Este, a meeting place for artists and critics such as Maestro Riccardo Muti, Palma Bucarelli and Giuseppe Mazzariol with whom he established a partnership that would be fundamental for Cortelazzo. He died unexpectedly on November 6, 1985.
