Girolamo Siciolante, born in Sermoneta in 1521 and died in Rome in 1575, began his apprenticeship at the workshop of Leonardo da Pistoia in Rome from a young age. For the young Siciolante, Raffaello Sanzio represents a clear reference and looks to the Classical as a model to imitate, without being influenced by mannerist "oddities". In 1543, the artist became a member of the Accademia di San Luca and it is likely that in this period he met his future master, Perin del Vaga. During a stay in Emilia he came into contact with the artistic reality of Correggio, Garofalo and Mazzola Bedoli, which transpires covertly in many of his subsequent works.
Girolamo Siciolante died suddenly in Rome in 1575.
