Alain Delon Biography

Alain Delon was born in 1935 in the French municipality of Sceaux. At the age of four, his parents divorced and his mother was forced to entrust him to another family, with whom he remained until the age of eight. Subsequently, he spent six years in a nuns' boarding school. At seventeen, he enlisted in the French navy and was assigned to Indochina. In 1956, he returned to France, where he held various odd jobs before embarking on a film career. Alain Delon made his debut as a film actor in 1957 with the film Godot, and the following year he got his first leading role in The Pure Lover. In 1960, he achieved great success with Crime in Full Sun, which allowed him to become known on an international level. The same year, he starred in Rocco and his brothers. In 1963, he was part of the cast of Casino Score and, a couple of years later, began working in successful Hollywood productions. Delon's true consecration in his homeland came in 1967 with the film Frank Costello Face of an Angel, and in the same period he began a rivalry with the French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, with whom he subsequently collaborated in Borsalino in 1970. In the 1970s 70, he acted in very complex roles, such as the one in the film The Assassination of Trotsky, while at the end of the decade his career was divided between violent detective films and minor international productions. In 1984, he appeared in Swann's Love, but from that moment his career suffered a progressive decline and at the end of the 1980s, Delon moved away from cinema. He returned to the big screen in 2008 with the film Asterix at the Olympics.
