Palwel Franck Detto Paolo Fiammingo Biography

Pauwels Franck (1540 -1596), better known in Italy as Paolo Fiammingo, was a Flemish painter, active in Venice and a pupil of Tintoretto.
After his training and first commissions in Northern Europe, he settled in Venice where he began working for Tintoretto's workshop. In Venice he became known as Paolo Fiammingo and collaborated with Tintoretto on the execution of large paintings for the Doge's Palace.
He later opened his own workshop in Venice and specialized in landscapes where the Flemish tradition mixes with the Venetian one. In particular, his airy landscapes populated by elegant figures had a great influence both in Italy and in northern Europe.
Franck's first known Venetian work is the San Girolamo preserved in the archpriest church of Mirano, which shows his remarkable chromatic sensitivity and the style of Tintoretto. Franck also collaborated with Robusti by painting a landscape in the San Rocco hermit preserved in the church of San Rocco.
His mature works such as "Landscape with hunting scenes", dating back to the 1990s, evoke a vision of considerable effectiveness, creating a sort of symbiosis between the spectator and nature.
