Antonio Dias Biography
Antonio Dias was born in 1944 in Campina Grande, in the state of Paraiba in Brazil, he is an illustrious Brazilian artist, considered by many experts in the field as one of the greatest and most important famous painters in the history of contemporary art. From a young age, he demonstrated great artistic talent, showing a particular interest in painting and drawing, and a desire to establish himself in these fields. He enrolled in 1957 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, where he received the guidance of one of the greatest Brazilian illustrators and painters of the time, Oswald Goeldi. Dias was an artist capable of uniting the cocretist movement and the tropicalia tradition.
Throughout his career, Dias won the painting prize of the Biennale des Jeunes in Paris in 1965 and lived in Paris in 1967-68. He also spent time in Italy, in Milan, where he opened a studio and purchased a residence that he loved to visit. He then lived and worked in Germany, Cologne and Berlin, and found new stimuli in the United States and Nepal. In particular, he created a special handmade paper in Nepal to experiment with colors.
Antonio Dias' career has been crowned with numerous acclaim and has been exhibited in some of the most prestigious art exhibitions in the world. Dias was also a respected teacher and continues to work actively on numerous works and paintings. His works from the 1960s, which use the colors red, white and black, represent symbols of the blood and intimacy of man and the city.
