Benvenuto Disertori was born on 16 February 1887 in Trento. After attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, he obtained first prize in painting at the landscape school. In Munich, he dedicated himself to the study of the nude at a private drawing school. But it was in Rome that he discovered his true vocation for engraving, in which he achieved considerable mastery in the techniques of woodcut, etching, burin and drypoint engraving.
Important exhibitions in his career were the 1914 Munich International Exhibition and the Venice Biennale. Between 1920 and 1930, he dedicated himself to illustrating books for Mondadori, also designing covers and title pages. He was interested in musical paleography and in the search for unpublished and little-known scores from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The Italian government awarded him the gold medal for art and culture in 1957.
Disertori died on 22 January 1969 in Milan.
