Francesco Domeneghini was born on 5 October 1860 in Breno. He began working in the workshop of the painter Giuseppe Rota, who painted in some aristocratic homes and subsequently moved to Rome to study from life at the School of Costume. In 1888 he moved to South America where he undertook an intense decorative activity. The Latin American period is richly documented by a diary kept by his heirs in Brescia, where the artist noted the works carried out, even if most of them were destroyed. Returning to Italy, Domeneghini settled in Bergamo where he taught for many years at the "A. Fantoni" institute. At the same time he dedicated himself to a vast production of easel paintings, reproducing landscapes, city views and portraits. On 10 May 1950, Domeneghini died in Bergamo, leaving his collection of works by Bergamo artists from the 16th to the 18th century to his hometown.
