Michael Ducaroy Biography

Michel Ducaroy was born in 1925 into a family of designers and furniture makers who stood out for their activities both in private homes and for large contracts, such as furniture lines, exhibitions and official buildings. Thanks to the knowledge acquired in this context, Michel Ducaroy trained at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Lyon and subsequently worked in the family business, before embarking on a career as an independent designer in 1952.
His first contact with the Roset company dates back to 1954 and since then Michel Ducaroy has become one of their most prominent designers. In 1968, he created one of the first modular chairs completely made of foam, called Adria Bassa, followed by other creations such as Kashima and Safi. However, it was in 1973 that he designed the iconic Togo, a collection of seats made entirely of foam with generously quilted polyester covers. Thanks to its unique design, the Togo collection fits comfortably into any type of interior and has remained one of Ligne Roset's best sellers to this day.
