Paul Dupré Lafon, born in 1900 in Marseille, was a well-known French architect of Art Deco furniture. Initially educated by the Jesuits during his secondary education, Lafon then embarked on an artistic career at the Fine Arts. He moved to Paris to dedicate himself to the profession of architect-decorator.
In 1929, he decorated a large private villa near the Parc Monceau, a far-reaching project that would prove instrumental in launching his career. Through a balanced combination of refinement and functionality, the artist adopts a modern and sophisticated style in line with Art Deco. Furthermore, Lafon brilliantly embraces the avant-garde doctrine of functionalism, advocating the use of technology to the advantage of a highly contemporary aesthetic. During the 1920s and 1930s, Lafon collaborated with the Hermès brand creating ashtrays, lamps and other accessories. Unfortunately, Paul Dupré Lafon died in December 1971 in Deauville, France.
