Gunnar Ekelöf was born in Stockholm in 1907. A poet of great importance, he came into contact with the Dadaist and Surrealist movements, having the opportunity to make them known in Sweden through the magazine "Spektrum". During this phase, he published the collection "Late on Earth" in 1932. During the 1940s, Ekelöf had significant influence from Eliot's poetry, leading his poetry towards the direction of existential-symbolism. His works "Song of the Ferry" from 1941 and "Opus incertum" from 1959 are testimony to this change. Ekelöf's most important work is considered to be the "Elegy for Mölna" written in the period between 1940 and 1960. This vast composition engages in the search for the value of time and death.
