Giorgio Ferro was born in Murano in 1931 and is the son of the glassmaker Galliano. He attended the Art Institute of Venice, initially dedicating himself to painting. In the period between 1951 and 1955, he joined AVEM as a designer and began to deal mainly with design after the death of Giulio Radi. His most significant work from this period is a piece called "Anse Volanti", which consists of dark-colored vases with iridescent surfaces and large handles hot-cut directly from the body, with a notable sculptural effect. When his father, Galliano, left AVEM in 1955 to found his own company, he followed him in the artistic direction of the new company and designed both thin blown glass and recessed glass with essential shapes. Since 1972 he has been the owner of Galliano Ferro.
