Carlo Forcolini Biography

Carlo Forcolini (1947 - ) Born in Como in 1947 and graduated in Milan at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 1969. Since that year he has carried out design and entrepreneurial activities, participating in the foundation of Alias ​​(1979) and Nemo (1992) , a company of which he was CEO and Art director. From 1978 to 1984 he lived in London, where he founded Alias ​​UK and became Director of Artemide GB. Starting from 1983 he participated in numerous international exhibitions and events in Madrid, Los Angeles, London, Hamburg, Cologne, Tokyo, Sydney, Santiago del Chile, Oslo etc. Among the most important exhibitions, in 1987 «The ways of the project» at the Pignatelli Cortes Museum in Naples; in 1989 in Moscow «Design Alias ​​dall'Italia», set up at the Soviet Culture Foundation; in 1990 in Tokyo «Creatitalia». Personal exhibitions at the Permanente in Milan in 1991 ("Imagining things"), in Innsbruck in 1996, in Toronto and Brussels in 1997. He has held seminars in various schools and universities, including the prestigious "Graham Foundation" in Chicago. His projects are in the design collections of the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, in the Design Museum of the Triennale in Milan. He has designed furniture, lamps and objects for Amar, Artemide, Alias, Cassina, BBB Bonacina, De Padova, Luceplan, Luci Italia, Gervasoni, Joint, Nemo, OYlight, Pomellato, Valenti and Zumtobel Residential Lighting. From 1995 to 2000 he was art director of Pomellato S,p,a. In 1999 he founded the Forcolini.Lab, a creative laboratory that operates in the various fields of visual communication. Among his installations we remember: Triennale di Milano, in the exhibition The City and Design, installation with Franco Origoni of the Alfa Romeo and Moto Guzzi Museum (2001). Setting up of a traveling exhibition at the Triennale Design Museum (100 objects, 2001/2009). Since 2007 he has been part of the Italian Design Council (the Italian Design Council) appointed by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. Lives and works in Milan.
