Piero Castiglioni was born in Lierna in 1944 and graduated in architecture in Milan. He began his career in the 1970s, working with his father Livio in their design studio. During this period, he developed lighting designs for many art galleries and temporary exhibitions, hotels, offices, showrooms, shops and private homes. The "Scintilla" system, created together with his father and which has become a FontanaArte best seller, is the result of the experiences acquired over the years. In the same years, he also designed Sillaba and subsequently Sillabone, inaugurating a new sector of activity for the Milanese company, which lies between decorative lighting and technical lighting. In the 1980s, he collaborated with Gae Aulenti in the creation of the Parola family of lamps and the more technical Calle and Diamante lamps.
