Piero Galanti Biography

GALANTI PIERO. Brescia, 17 July 1885-24 November 1973. Piero Galanti was an emerging figure of artist, for long decades and not only in the Brescia area. Born to Valentino and Caterina Pola, his life was fueled by art and deep family affections. Initially living in the suburbs, in 1936 he was able to move to the noble house in via Gezio Calini. Galanti reflected the silent industriousness of old Brescia; austere character, sometimes gruff, but illuminated by generous impulses and enthusiasm. As a teenager he faced his parents who wanted him to be employed, he attended Moretto school. And he did not abandon painting even when contingent needs forced him to work first in the Dabbeni studio and then to move to Milan to practice graphics. Having served in the Pasubio during the World War, he was almost thirty years old when, returning to the city, he faced his first artistic challenges: and the long series of collective and personal exhibitions in the city and outside began from the climate of Art in the family. The 1920s still represent a period of research: the canvases bear deep tones, even in the motifs of Garda portrayed in silent evenings. Having lost his Mother (1 926), he often stayed on the shores of the lake and the colors gradually became lighter in front of places such as Portese, Gardone, Tremosine. And the use of pastel was also recurrent in those years. This will then be followed by the series of paintings created on, beyond Fasano, Barbarano, on the road leading to S. Michele from where one can grasp the vastness of the water engraved by the unmistakable features of the island, of the "profile of Dante" recreated from the fortress of Manerba . The Vo, finally; visions all in which the colors light up with golden reflections. But next to Garda, here are the various locations of Capovalle, Marmentino, La Valle Camonica, Idro (from the 1930s to the 1960s) into which he seems to pour an ever-awaited impetus into his work as a portraitist.
