Pietro Gaudenzi Biography
Pietro Gaudenzi was born on 18 January 1880 in Genoa, where he attended the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts. In 1904, he moved to Rome to study the Renaissance masters and learning the painting of artists such as Sartorio, Michetti, Spadini and Mancini. He also perfected his skills with Felice Carena. In 1932, he exhibited at the Venice Biennale and in 1935 at the Rome Quadrennial. Later, he moved to Anticoli, where his painting became more lyrical, before approaching the ways of the twentieth century. In 1951, he was appointed to direct the Vatican School of Mosaic, dedicating much of his final years to this technique. In fact, he created mosaics for the cathedral of Messina, for the crypt of that of Ascoli Piceno, for the apses of the Regina Apostolorum and of the church of the American College of Rome.
Pietro Gaudenzi died in Anticoli Corrado, Rome, on 23 December 1955.
