Aldo Gentilini (Genoa 1912 – Volpeglino 1982) Self-taught painter and sculptor. He took philosophy courses and lived in monastic seclusion for several years. Aldo Gentilini's was an artistic life made up of ups and downs, he was a great admirer of Saint Francis of Assisi, which is why he was unable to adapt to the commercial system; his countless works, in fact, were sold by him for little money. Genoa was his hometown, but Courmayeur was his adopted homeland, where he spent much of his youth. And from the Courmayeur period are the "Totems", as the artist himself defined those first wooden creations, which recall something primitive. A great innovator for his time, he dedicated himself to painting with great enthusiasm, preferring the oil technique but without neglecting acrylic colors at all. His paintings, characterized by bright, sometimes strident colours, develop into pseudo-cubist compositions in which the backgrounds of pure color create a dialectic that is projected off the canvas. He had his golden period at the turn of the 70s when his fame crossed regional borders. He exhibited in many collective and personal exhibitions in Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Canada, America, Australia, Germany and Switzerland. In 1982 he was awarded the "Golden Oak" prize in Bologna.
