Luigi Gismondo Biography

Ceramist and sculptor Luigi Gismondo was born in 1936 in Grammichele, in the province of Catania, where he studied at the "Raffaele Libertini" Art Institute completing his preparation at the "Gaetano Ballardini" of Faenza, a pupil of Angelo Biancini. Teacher of ceramic decoration for over forty years at the Grammichele Regional Art Institute, he was appointed commissioner of the same in its management from 1971-72. In 1979 he participated in the Reggio Calabria Ceramics Biennial, repeating the experience in the two subsequent events. In 1986 he made his European debut with an exhibition in Nuremberg. In 1990 he was present at the Palermo and Savona Biennials and the following year he exhibited in Spain. In 1992 he made his international debut which saw him present his works in Japan and Taiwan. In 1994 he won third prize at the Gualdo Tadino International Ceramics Competition. In 2002 he presented his works with the shapes and decorations of Mediterranean classicism at the "Terre di Luci" exhibition at the Olive and Oil Museum of Torgiano, in the province of Perugia. In 2008 he participated in the XXVIII International Ceramics Competition in Alcora, Spain. Among the master's collaborators we remember the sculptor Marina Mele.
