Giorgio Grai was a famous Italian painter and sculptor, born in Trieste in 1894. After attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, he continued his artistic training at the academies of Bologna and Venice. Later, he founded the Circolo Artistico della Casa di Dante in Florence, where he lived for a period.
Giorgio Grai's first success as a painter dates back to 1919, when he exhibited for the first time in Athens. Later, he participated in exhibitions at the Glasspalatz in Munich. His specialty as an artist was portraiture, but he also distinguished himself as a master of landscape painting and sculpture.
In 1955, he was awarded the Minister Ponti Cup for a "Deposition" exhibited in Lucca. Giorgio Grai was also a member of the Cherubini National Academy for the Figurative Arts, and was appreciated by the great art critic Bernard Berenson.
