Johanna Grawunder is an architect, artist and designer renowned for her work in the field of lighting. He earned a degree in Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and subsequently studied and worked with Gianni Pettena and Cristiano Toraldo di Francia of Superstudio in Florence (1984-1985). She later moved to Milan to work at the Sottsass Associati studio (1985-2001), of which she became a partner in 1989, dealing mainly with architectural and interior design. In 2001 he opened his own design studio in San Francisco and Milan. Grawunder's research focuses on architectural principles and proportions, non-precious construction materials and technological innovation applied to light. His work includes large-scale public lighting projects, colorful installations, interior and exterior architectural interventions, limited edition furniture and lighting collections. He collaborates with numerous prominent architects and designers, creating specific light installations for their projects, as well as designing products for important companies. In 2018 she was awarded Collective Influence Honoree by Collective Design. His works are included in the permanent collections of many museums in the United States and Europe.
