Rolando Hettner Biography

Rolando Hettner's studies on ceramics began in Germany at the Landshut State Ceramic Art School, where he obtained his master ceramist diploma. From 1924 to 1926 he worked as an expert in various German ceramic industries and at the State Majolica Manufactory in Karlsruhe. From 1926 to 1932 he studied painting at the state academy of fine arts in Dusseldorf and Dresden, having his father Otto, Campendone and Dix as teachers. After his aforementioned human events due to the historical period and the choices he made, we find him dedicated to ceramics at the ancient "Mill" on Lake Como, from 1947 to 1952 where he built a wood-fired kiln and in solitude he dedicated himself exclusively to ceramics. The production of that period came to be known by the acronym "Il Molino". In 1953 he returned to Milan and continued to create his unique ceramic pieces exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In 1958 he abandoned ceramics to dedicate himself definitively to painting. Hettner's multiple exhibitions and participation in important events allowed him to export his art abroad, such as: Italy of works - organized by the CNA in the main cities of the United States; IX and X Triennale of Milan; The selective exhibitions promoted by the Triennale in Oslo, in France in Paris (at the Cristofle Gallery); The exhibitions promoted by the "Venice Biennale" in Copenhagen and Helsinki; The exhibition promoted by Nordista Kompaniet in Stockholm; The Exhibitions of Modern Italian Ceramics organized by the Totti Gallery of Milan in Munich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Dusseldorf and Hamburg; The exhibition held in Milan at the Cairoli Gallery in Via della Spiga etc.
