Carlo Jotti was born in Milan on 29 March 1826 and spent his formative years at the Brera Academy. Here he followed the courses of important masters such as Luigi Sabatelli and Giuseppe Bisi. During the first phase of his artistic career, Jotti concentrated mainly on academic history painting, coming under the influence of his teacher Sabatelli. However, Bisi's landscape influence subsequently prevailed on him, through which he developed a realist vision of nature, based on direct observation of reality. Carlo Jotti thus became part of the group of Lombard landscape artists, characterized by their attention to the study of light and colours. The painter interpreted the Lombardy region with great sensitivity. Jotti made his debut at the Turin Promotrice in 1851 and regularly participated in subsequent exhibitions until 1884. Furthermore, he also took part in the exhibitions in Genoa, Milan and Florence. He died in Milan in 1905.
