Kirman carpets, originating from the city of the same name and some villages within its radius of action, represent one of the most appreciated handcrafted products in the whole of Persia. Kirman, located in the south-eastern area of ​​the country, is one of the most isolated and desert-like production areas in the entire Iranian territory with hundreds of kilometers of desert plateau separating it from the remaining centers in the southern and eastern areas. The production technique used for Kirman carpets involves the use of vertical looms, cotton warp and weft, with the weft passing twice after each row of knots and a wool pile, with a medium or satin cut. Their great importance is due above all to the great skill of the Ustad, the cartoonists who created a vast typology of drawings, while respecting local traditions. This has allowed the Kirman to present itself with a distinctive imprint compared to other origins and represent one of the most appreciated artefacts on the Western market. Floral designs are characteristic of all Kirman, with many examples featuring a rich central medallion in relief from the field. The motifs of the medallions are echoed in the border and corners of the carpet, while some Kirman are known as Ghab Ghoraní, or "Quran Cover", as they recall the designs of the covers of the ancient Korans.
