William Latham Biography

William Latham (1961 - ), born 1961, is a British artist, best known for being the creator of the Organic Art product, as well as for creating album covers and artwork for the dance group The Shamen. Latham is the founder of the Computer Artworks company which released the Organic Art product through Time Warner Interactive. Latham authored a book called Evolutionary Art and Computers together with Stephen Todd, published in 1992, based on their work at the IBM (UK) Scientific Center in Winchester, generating computer models of 3-d organic life forms, using techniques based on genetic algorithms to mutate basic shapes into artistic creations. Since 2007, Latham has been a professor of computer science at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is co-director and founder of SoftV, a company specializing in developing games for patients at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, UCL. His recent research work has focused on developing new interactive virtual reality interfaces on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR devices for 3D computer art.
