Gregorio Lazzarini was born in Venice in 1655 and trained in the same city with the masters Francesco Rosa, Pietro della Vecchia and Antonio Zanchi. However, Lazzarini decided to work with Girolamo Forabosco. From the latter, he learned the secrets of perspective, the love for solid drafting and a clear definition of drawing. Lazzarini adopted Forabosco's vibrant, epidermal pictorialism in a more academic manner, becoming one of the leading representatives of the 18th-century Venetian school. Among his most appreciated works is the famous painting "Alemosina di San Lorenzo Giustiniani" in San Pietro di Castello in Venice (1691). Among Lazzarini's students was the famous painter Giambattista Tiepolo. Lazzarini died in Villabona Veronese on 10 November 1730.
