He attended the Brera Academy in Milan, from which he emerged with the Bozzi-Caimi prize. He immediately dedicated himself to portraits and genre paintings, initially showing great admiration for Morelli. In 1912, rejected at the «Permanente», he exhibited with others at the «Cova» and received critical praise for an «S. Carlo who goes to visit the plague victims". They liked the "warm tones, the masculine robustness of the workmanship, the solid reality with which the figures were rendered" (Giovanola). He exhibited at the Venice Biennale and other important art exhibitions, but the hopes he had for his artistic career were partly dashed. His painting results in a second-hand left-handedness.
