Alessandro Marchesini, born in Verona on 30 April 1664, died in the same city on 27 January 1738. In his youth, he studied under the guidance of Biagio Falcieri and Felice Cignani. His first commission, in 1687, was the ceiling of the Church of San Domenico, damaged by fire. The fresco depicts scenes of San Domenico and Santa Caterina da Siena. In the last years of the 17th century, he received numerous commissions for both churches and palaces. In 1705, he met Stefano Conti in Venice, an important art collector, who encouraged him to paint small-format works of mythological subjects for the foreign market, especially the German one. He returned to Verona in 1737 and died the following year on 27 January.
