Roberto Merelli (1936 - ) was born in Venice in 1936. He trained at the Scuola Libera del Nudo of the Venice Academy and participated in several personal and collective exhibitions. Among the numerous recognitions, it is worth mentioning the invitation in 1968 to the XXXIV Venice Biennale, for the "figurative arts" series. The documentation relating to Merelli's artistic activity is preserved in the Historical Archive of Contemporary Arts of the Venice Biennale. "Neo figurative", he painted typical Venetian views to the point of investigating the notion of movement with his famous Horses: here too the motion, always the motion. The artist captures his horses in the tension of the momentum, according to rhythmic cadences that are inherent in the the very essence of the animal. The nostrils quiver in the wind; the galloping legs stand out. For him the city was made of light - color: the signs he traced were the vectors of this combination own artistic language on an expressionism of color. The figures are subjected to a process of formal synthesis, through a lively drafting, made of subtle signs and with a sinuous movement. The subjects are therefore extremely mobile and lively, shaken by vibrations of existential character.
