Jan Miel (1559 - 1663), also known as Giovanni Miel or Giovannino delle Vite, was a painter active in Italy. He was part of the Bamboccianti group, led mainly by Pieter van Laer. He was involved in the decoration of important palaces such as the Quirinale Palace, the Royal Palace of Turin and the Reggia di Venaria.
Born in Beveren-Waas, near Antwerp, in 1636 he moved to Rome where he painted works such as "Mascherata" and "Carnevalata" together with the Bamboccianti. Curiously, he also collaborated on the decoration of Palazzo Barberini with Andrea Sacchi who instead despised the themes of everyday life that inspired the Bamboccianti. In 1650 he was called by Pietro da Cortona to be part of the group of painters involved in the decoration of Alexander VII's gallery at the Quirinale Palace.
In 1658 the Duke of Savoy Carlo Emanuele II called him to Turin to decorate the Royal Palace and the Royal Palace of Venaria, under construction in that period. In Venaria Jan Miel created a cycle of frescoes on the vault of the Diana Hall and ten paintings on the duke's hunts, always in the same hall.
