Franz Moormans, born in Rotterdam on 2 February 1832, was a painter who was part of the Dutch school. After studying at the Amsterdam Academy of Art, he became a teacher. Little is known about his life, but it is known that he worked in Rotterdam and later in Paris, where he was known for his traditional genre scenes, portraits and interiors. In 1889 he participated in an exhibition at the Salon des Artistes in Paris, where he received a medal. Most of his oil paintings are still privately owned but some are in museums in Rouen and Montreal. Franz Moormans died in Paris either 1884 or 1893, unfortunately the precise date has not been ascertained.
