VIK MUNIZ (1961) Vik Muniz is an artist and photographer born in 1961 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Initially a sculptor, Muniz became interested in photographic representations of his work, eventually concentrating entirely on photography. Primarily working in series, Muniz incorporates the use of everyday objects such as diamonds, sugar, thread, chocolate syrup, and trash to create bold, ironic, and often deceptive images gleaned from the pages of pop culture and art history. His work has been met with both commercial success and critical acclaim and has been exhibited throughout the world.
