Carlo Nangeroni Biography

Nangeroni Carlo (New York, 1922) Carlo Nangeroni attended courses at the “Beato Angelico Higher School of Christian Art” in Milan and evening courses in Brera. He later returned to New York, where he came into contact with the major emerging artists and with the renewal of American painting. He became close to the protagonists of action painting, such as De Kooning and Franz Kline and in 1949 he set up his first solo exhibition at the "New York circulating gallery of paintings". In the same period he also worked in scenography, collaborating with the television network of the "National Broadcasting Company" and creating settings for operas and prose theatre. In 1958 he returned to Milan, where he was able to dedicate himself exclusively to painting and in 1959 he exhibited for the first time in Italy at the Schneider gallery in Rome. In 1960 he changed his artistic style, moving from free brushstrokes to plastic elements, up to the representation of the circle, a constant in his works. During his career Nangeroni met many important artists, such as Gianni Colombo, Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Gianni Brusamolino, Emilio Scanavino. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1972 and in 1973 he was invited to the X Quadrennial in Rome. In the 1980s he became interested in combinations, thematic variations and the ambiguities of colour, experimenting with combinations of colored vertical lines and small diagonals. His works are preserved in various collections in the United States, France, Germany, Italy and in many other exhibitions.
